Hello, I have minimal experience with Sony Vegas and need some help. I have Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum version 10.0 (Build 179). MP4 and some other types of video files work just fine, but MOV files have an issue in the preview: -When playing MOV files in the preview window, it automatically changes the resolution and framerate of the playback from 1080p to something lower.
-The video also stutters and isn't smooth. -The size of the video doesn't seem to matter, 100MB, 500MB, 3GB all play the same in the preview.
-MP4 files play perfectly at 1080p in the preview. -MOV files play perfectly outside of the preview. -My computer is Windows 10, i7 6700K, 32GB of RAM, GTX 970 card.
I don't think it's a hardware issue since Vegas only uses like 10% CPU and RAM with the movies playing. I also tried setting the RAM preview setting to 1024, although I'm not sure exactly what it does. Is there any way to get my MOV files playing smoothly at 1080p in preview, or will I need to keep converting them?
Thank you very much for any help. As I understand it, even a 64 bit system running a 64 bit version of Vegas is still only going to get 32-bit from Quicktime on a Windows machine, which I think is 2 gb max.
Where does your MOV file come from, what codec specs are inside the MOV container? Not all codec specs inside an MOV container play well in Vegas.
What version Quicktime are you using? I'm using version 7 build 7.76.80.95 and not having problems (however I'm also on Windows 7 SP1 box), but I have read that others have more problems with the latest Quicktime release and overcome problems by going back to 7.76.80.95.just a thought. Download a free copy of 'Mediainfo', at SourceForge. Be caution when installing, it will try to install other products. Then open your source file in 'text' mode and paste it here. Are you having the same problem with the Nikon MOV -vs- the drone MOV? A short test may be in order so you don't mix the two in your project.
What drone camera are you using? How many MOV files do you have in your project? I have a small Nikon camera and the MOV files play fine in my Vegas Pro 13, Win 7. That really doesn't mean anything for you, just a comment. Most of the reported problems I read about with MOV files in Vegas or Movie Studio are based on the NLE locking up or crashing because of the 32 bit Quicktime, and having too many MOV files in the project.

I had a problem with my disks (an original Maxtor from a dual G5). It had three HFS Plus journaled partitions.
Suddenly, the system would not boot. When looking at the disk with Apple's Disk Utility, the disk is visible, the name of the volume is not displayed (/dev/disk0s5 was displyed instead), and the volume would not mount. Using Apple's Disk Utility repair function failed to fix the drive. I tried using DiskWarrior, but it was really slow -- the message was saying something like 'speed inhibted by disk malfunction.' It was so slow, I was not sure if it had crashed, or if it would take weeks to get through.
So I decided to look what other tools were available, I looked on macosxhints, and found about using dd to make a block copy of a volume (e.g. Then, looking aroung on the net, I found a Linux tool called made by Antonio Diaz Diaz (not to be confused with dd_rescue written by Kurt Garloff, which was mentionned in one of the comments of the original article). I tried to compile ddrescue on Panther and it did not work. I then tried to compile it on Tiger, and it worked the first time (great to see Linux tools compiling on OS X without causing a headache). To compile, open the Terminal and cd to the ddrescue directory, and then run the following commands: $./configure $ make Then you can run ddrescue (once compiled, it would probably also run on 10.3). The syntax for ddrescue is quite simple and here are the steps I followed: Copy the content of the volume into an image file: sudo./ddrescue -v /dev/disk0s5 MyVolImage.dmg MyVolRescue.log The were errors reported during the copy of few blocks. Ddrescue retried several times until I considered that there was no hope to recover these dead blocks (initially there were read errors on about 3000 blocks, and at the end, it turned out that 900 blocks had died).
